We are two sisters (Sallie and Julia) three years apart who share the same love for eating well and staying in shape. While Sallie is a stay at home mother of four and Julia is about to become a first time mom, we have always strived to make healthy lifestyle choices. We each have our own style of diet and exercise, whether it's Sallie training to run a marathon, or Julia getting up at 5am to attend a Body Pump class, but our goals are the same, to always be The Fit Mamas

Our First Post

Introducing......The Fit Mamas. Because every Mom can be a fit Mom. We're so excited to kick off a new section to our blog and what better time than the start of a new year?

Besides our passion for cooking, my sister and I both share a love for working out and staying fit and we want to pass this along to you. We are by no means professionals, just two Mom's who want to stay fit and healthy. I know as Moms we struggle to take time for ourselves and squeeze exercise into our busy days, but it is something we all need to do and the rewards are so worth it!
What will you find on this blog? Reviews of diets, fitness classes and programs we've tried, fitness and diet book reviews, healthy recipes and nutrition tips, workout ideas, and so much more. We'll also have an Ask the Fit Mama's section for anyone who would like to ask a specific question.
We're excited to join in The Recipe Girls' 10 in 2010. 10 weeks to healthy in 2010. What better way to jump start your new year. Click this link if you want to join in too! We'd love to hear your plan. My goal (Sallie) is to keep eating healthy and to run the St. George Marathon in 2010. Julia's is to be swim suit ready by summer (she's currently due to have her first baby in a couple of weeks) and diversify her workout routine.
Just a final note about New Year's Resolutions. Our challenge to you today is to decide if you want to be fit? If you do, how are you going to get there? Our biggest piece of advice is to start small! So many people start in January with a strict diet and demanding exercise schedule, only to become discouraged and exhausted a week or two later. Write down your long term goals but set smaller goals to help you work towards the end result. For instance, you might want to lose 20 lbs. How about set a goal to lose a pound a week? Set up rewards (non food related) when you reach 5, 10, and 15 lbs. with a great reward once you reach your goal. Do you want to eat healthier? Start by removing one unhealthy food or habit from your diet. Once you have that down, move on to the next thing. Do you want to start exercising? Anything is better than nothing. If you haven't been very active in the past walking is a great way to get started. Try 15 minutes a day and add a few minutes when you feel you need more of a challenge. Whatever you decide to do, we'd love to hear about it and help you on your journey! Here's to a fit and healthy 2010.

Sincerely,
The Fit Mamas
